2 Girls and Some Salt + Playwriting

If you've been reading our blog closely, you will recall that in between eating salad, we have decided to go back to playwriting for a while. We're excited, but we wonder, have we still got it? We haven't written a play in a while.  But we figure it's like riding a bike right?

TRICIA
You hate riding bikes.

SIANA
I know, but I think I could still ride one if I tried.

TRICIA
But you'd be bad at it for a while before you got back
up to speed.

Oh the metaphors are abounding here.  It's true we are making them happen, but they're magical nonetheless.

SIANA
Maybe there should be magic in our play.

TRICIA
And like magicians with a girl they cut in half with a
saw in a box.

Yeah, our brainstorming isn't what it used to be.  Maybe because our brains aren't what they used to be.  Siana had one really good idea and then Tricia had one really good idea and now we're kind of just sitting here staring straight ahead.

TRICIA
So what kind of popcorn should we buy for the popcorn
machine for Leesey's birthday party?

You may recall that Siana has a popcorn machine that is awesome and will be fun for a kids party. See this blog if you don't remember - Popcorn machine blog

SIANA
We need to do a massive taste test that will involve
different kinds of popcorn, various types of oil and at
least 2 different kinds of salt.

TRICIA
How many kinds of salt could there be?

SIANA
Sea salt, kosher salt, I have some random lavender salt
I got in a gift bag. I also have truffle salt.

TRICIA
Lavender salt? This is a weird thing about you that I
didn't know.

SIANA
You know I love salt.

We decide to do an impromptu taste test on the spot and grab the truffle salt.

And here is a close up of the tester popcorn with truffle salt.

Also here is a bad picture of us we took with the computer camera in our attempt to highlight the variety of salt in Siana's cupboard.

It is true that Siana loves salt and Tricia loves chocolate. Alternately we both love either one, but when the shit hits the fan, we each reach for our favorites.

TRICIA
Maybe chocolate and salt can be a key component to the
play.  And then we'll be writing what we know.

And so the play begins.

Act I, Scene I
Chocolate and salt are sitting on a couch watching a Lifetime Movie.

Art is definitely imitating life.
